HASI - Home Adaptations for Seniors Independence
This program helps homeowners and tenants or landlords pay for home adaptations to extend the time that low-income seniors can live in their home independently.
RRAP-D - Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program for persons w/ Disabilities
This program offers financial assistance to low-income homeowners to repair and upgrade their substandard dwellings to a safer and healthier level
ITEMS COVERED:
Home modifications and installed equipment (stair lifts, porch lifts, ramps, washroom modifications etc.
AMOUNT:
a) HASI: $3,500.00 (forgivable loan)
b) RRAP-D: $18,000.00 (mostly forgivable loan depending on income)
ELIGIBILITY FOR FUNDING:
HASI:
• Seniors 65 years and older
• Total household annual income of less than $36,000
• Senior experiences difficulty getting around the home due to diminishing abilities due to aging
RRAP-D:
• Total annual household income is less than $35,000
• Home is valued at less than approximately $280,000 (exact value varies dependent upon area)
PROCEDURE TO OBTAIN FUNDING:
In Toronto: call 416-250-3275 and request either HASI or RRAP-D application package
Outside of Toronto: call 1-800-668-2642
RESTRICTIONS:
• For HASI, the application process is short and the funding approval has a quick turnaround time
• For RRAP, the application process is more complex. The applicant must submit copies of T4's and bank statements to prove
absence of savings. In addition, there exists a waiting list as funding is limited.
